Webb wins two medals at racquetball junior worlds

Trevor Webb was a double medalist at the recent the 2017 International Racquetball Federation Junior World Championship in Minneapolis, Minn.

Webb won a silver medal in under-18 boys’ doubles with partner Simon Comeau, losing to Mexico’s Gerardo Franco and Eduardo Portillo in the final.

The Canadians fought hard for control in the first game before Franco and Portillo pulled away to win 15-9. The second game went Mexico’s way with Franco and Portillo winning 15-2.

Webb and Comeau advanced the final after a hard-fought match against Costa Rica in the semifinals.

In singles, Webb won a bronze medal.

Canada was fifth overall in the standings.

The next major event for several of the athletes competing at the Junior World Championships will be the Racquetball Canada National Team Selection Event, Nov. 22 to 24, in Vernon, B.C.

Tournament results are part of the criteria used to select Canada’s team for the 2018 Pan Am Championships and World Championships.
