Mexican Nationals Women’s Open Preview
http://www.r2sports.com/tourney/home.asp?TID=24713
Mexican Nationals are already underway, with the Men starting Wednesday 2/21 (with my preview for that draw running yesterday). The Women’s draw essentially looks like a LPRT pro event at the top, so we know its a solid tournament with lots of talent.
There’s 20 players in the draw; here’s projections for some possible quarter final match-ups:
– #1/#8: Paola Longoria – Denisse Maldonado, who has to beat Delia Aguilar to even get there.
– #5/#4: Alexandra Herrera – Susy Acosta: two lefties going at it; they’ve only played once on tour and it was in the most recent LPRT event ( a 3-game Herrera win).
– #3/#6: Jessica Leona Parrilla – Nancy Enriquez: Enriquez just beat Parrilla en-route to her first pro final in South Carolina; can she do it again?
– #2/#7: Samantha Salas Solis – Montserrat Montse Mejia: Mejia still has a year to go in 18U, while Salas is just returning to playing after months away nursing a shoulder injury.
Semis and Finals predictions:
Longoria, Herrera, Enriquez and Salas, with Longoria over Enriquez in the final.
Its tough to predict any Longoria loss, ever. But there’s definitely some new blood threatening the established top 4 guard in the Mexican Ladies ranks. We’ll see just how far back Solis is quickly; Enriquez has the capability to make the Mexican final a rematch of the Sweet Caroline LPRT final.
