Ruhr-University Athlete Survey And Results

In July 2018, Ruhr-University in Bochum, Germany invited athletes of all levels to participate in a personality survey. This survey was posted on Reddit in r/racquetball and on Facebook in the Make Racquetball Great Again group.

Survey: What’s the typical personality profile of a racquetball player? Looking for participants!

Hi r/racquetball,

We are scientists from the Ruhr-University in Bochum in Germany and currently researching how athletes from different sports and at different proficiency levels differ in their personalities.

We created a survey in which you are asked to pick your main sport and to then characterize the typical and the ideal athlete of this sport. When choosing your sport from our list of sports “Squash & Racquetball” is probably the best fit for you.

The survey takes about 20 minutes and as compensation, we will later inform you about the typical personality profile of your sport!

Feel free to share the link with other people of your/other sports!

If you have questions, leave them in the comments and we will try to answer them.
Thank you so much in advance!

Results were released on October 29, 2018.

Dear athlete,

A few months ago, you participated in a survey in which you answered questions concerning the typical and ideal personality profile of your sport.

We just finished the first analyses and can finally provide you with some information about the typical personality profile of your sport. You can find it in the Racquetball & Squash Feedback PDF.

Thanks again for supporting our research project!

We have just started the second phase of our project on the relations of sport and personality. In the next phase, we are interested in personality characteristics that the athletes attribute to themselves (instead of attributing them to other athletes of their sport). If you are interested in further participation and feedback about your own personality profile, follow this link to a new survey: https://bochumpsych.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_a5lgdeazt4SOR3n

In some parts, this survey resembles the old one but your participation would still help us a lot.
Thank you very much for your interest and participation!

Kind regards,

Happiness Research Team Ruhr-University Bochum
