Paola Longoria – the #1 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) – defeated LPRT #2 Frédérique Lambert to win the 2017 Boston Open in Boston, Massachusetts Sunday, but sadly the outcome was due to Lambert’s retirement due to injury, rather than an on court win.
Longoria had won game one, 11-6, when Lambert felt that she couldn’t continue, as she was still feeling the effects of a blow to the head she suffered during a match on Saturday. Lambert had a headache Sunday that was worse than she felt on Saturday.
Longoria also won doubles with Alexandra Herrera, as they defeated Christina Amaya and Adriana Riveros, 15-5, 15-9. It’s the second time in October that Longoria has beaten Amaya and Riveros in an LPRT doubles final, as she and Gabriela Martinez beat them in the US Open final earlier this month.
Longoria and Herrera took the early lead in game one, 5-0, and although Amaya and Riveros cut the lead to 5-3 and then 9-5, Longoria and Herrera never trailed. Herrera got them the game winning point with a drive serve ace down the left side.
